Description :

Step back in time with this fascinating piece of Edwardian-era dining technology. This "Empress Ware" plate warmer was a high-end Victorian and Edwardian household staple, featuring a hollow metal base meant to be filled with hot water to keep the porcelain plate warm during long multi-course meals.

The lot includes:

  • Ornate Metal Housing: A heavy metal base with elegant integrated handles and a decorative "ball and claw" style profile.

  • Hot Water Reservoir: Features the original threaded metal stopper/plug where hot water is poured in.

  • Porcelain Insert: The plate features a classic blue floral "garland" transferware border that perfectly complements the polished metal base.

  • Authentic Markings: The underside is clearly stamped with the "Empress Ware" hallmark and a patent date of November 19, 1912.

Dimensions: * Diameter: 10" (excluding handles)

  • Width: 11.5" (handle to handle)

  • Height: 2.5"

Condition: Remarkable antique condition. The porcelain insert is free of chips or cracks. The metal housing shows a lovely age-appropriate patina; the water stopper is present and threads smoothly.
