This "Empress Ware" plate warmer was a high-end Victorian and Edwardian household staple, featuring a hollow metal base meant to be filled with hot water to keep the porcelain plate warm during long multi-course meals. The lot includes: Ornate Metal Housing: A heavy metal base with elegant integrated handles and a decorative "ball and claw" style profile. Hot Water Reservoir: Features the original threaded metal stopper/plug where hot water is poured in. Porcelain Insert: The plate features a classic blue floral "garland" transferware border that perfectly complements the polished metal base.
